Hides the controls for the emergency equipment.

I think the E46 had:

Radio silence button, marked with an icon of an antenna

Weapon bracket button, unmarked. Last weapon bracket I saw pictures of stored an MP 5 in the *rear armrest.* When the button is pushed it springs out forward and positions the weapon between the front seats. Wow!

Control panel for lights/siren was hidden under ashtray door.
