I've wanted to do this for a while. I was able to find DEI Nitelite on eBay for less then $50 shipped. There is photocell that controls on/off for the headlights. It has daytime running light control built in. Install is not hard having the proper wiring diagrams.

This is the Nitelite system.

I chose to tap into the wires that go into the headlight switch. I used the Bentley wiring diagrams.

Under dash picture. The big connector in the middle is the headlight switch connector.

Close up of the connector.

I chose to install the photocell on top of the center dash vent. Here is a picture with the vent removed.

This is how I routed the wire.

This is the on/off switch for the system. I think that this type of switch looks out of place in a BMW so placed it by the hand brake.

Some of the wire connections. Wiring is pretty straight forward.

It took me a couple of hours to do.

Some misc. pictures of the car. Yes it does need a paint job. Hopefully I'll be able to get it done next year.

Finally a picture of the cutoff.
