I am purchasing two new sensors online this week and hope to have them inside one week.

Once I have the old ones out I will examine them carefully - I expect that they are the original sensors fitted to the car and over time the shielding has either come away from the signal wire inside the exterior cable sheath - or more likely the exterior sheath has rubbed away at one of the cable mounting collars on the timing case.

Either way I expect our infinite resistance problem is caused by the shielding no longer being in contact with the signal wire.

Will let you know once I have the old sensors out.
