Subject: High revs

Today while driving on the highway in my 2001, 740il, (60,000 miles), I overtook another slower car, with gentle acceleration, once over, I wanted to return to cruising speed ( not on cruise control), the motor kept on reving at high revs ( around 2400 rpms) even with the foot of the gas paddel. To slow down I needed to keep on applying the brakes. The motor rev did not change. I pulled on the side of the road in a parking lot, The revs did not drop, I switched the car off thinking that it would reset the electric problem, if any. When I restarted the car in park, it kept on surging to over 6000 revs, I switched the motor off. I disonnected the battery, hoping to reset the problem, no luck. At this time the gear lever was stuck in park, it could not be moved. Got the car towed ( on flat bed)to a garage I use. At the garage, When I started the car, it did not rev as high, could move the gear lever. I checked under the car, no oil leak at the transmission, only leak that I saw was at the small hose just behind the left front light. The hose came from rear, at his junction has a coupling with some electric wire and then goes to the motor ( I do not know what this hose supply).
Please help, all suggestions and help will be highly appreciated. You can e-mail me directly at mmithoow@uwo.ca or reply on the forum. Thanks ( Sorry for the lengyh of the post)
