The side drive and the belted motor is giving me some ideas.
I actually do have 4 feet more of ceiling space, so I need to do some engineering to make the existing garage door opener drive the shaft rather than the top of the door. Hmmm.

This is what the tracks look like in mine.
Using the E32 to test the lift height
I can unbolt the upper curve and straight portion, move them up 4 feet and then add another section of track to the middle. At a minimum I can open it by hand and not have it hit the car.
