Subject: I've seen that direct drive in action and it doesn't save you

any space. The door still has to follow the track. If you look at the existing setup the opener rail stays above the door itself. The only way to get more overhead space with your current opener or the Dalton direct drive is to have your track raised as high as possible.

You probably have between 18'' and 24'' between the top of your track and the ceiling. Your Clopay dealer could raise the track, torsion rod and opener to use up as much space towards the ceiling as possible. With the 15'' radius that is on the track, an extended set of cables and track extensions you should be able to get the door within 12'' of the ceiling when fully open or if they use ''low headroom'' track they could get it within 4'' to 6'' from the ceiling.

Like I said it is very possible to raise the door but unless it's a corrugated roll up and not a sectional you still have to have it open into the garage area. What I have suggested above could cost from $500 to $750 per door to accomplish. The reason so high is that they will have to remove and replace a lot of parts and re-hang most of the door!

Let me know if I can be of assistance on your design. I was a regional director for Clopay a number of years ago and still remember how to hang a garage door!
