Car was in paint shop, and subed out the sunroof and felt lining. Lining was done well, but alignment never done right. I made major improvements. Takes a lot of time and patience to get it right so no water leaks. And the leak goes to the rear doors, at least on E23.
A water-bubble level turns out to be a very useful tool. It is trial and error deal, at least if you took the thing out to replace the seal. A PIA for sure. Keep at it and it you will find the 'sweet' spot sooner or later.
PS - wheel liner. If you remove you may find a gagle of wires. Some are twisted. Do not untwist. Untwist and look out TRANS PRO. At least e38 for sure. BMW got cheap and and twisted vs Coax etc to sheild.

Drainage - well shogun had a great idea. Grass trimmer plastic wire works to clean drain holes. Then again removing a rear door panel only a 10min DIY, and then clean, review, paint, lube etc.

E32 not knowledge, but e23 and probably same. Water leakage from sunroof drains to rear doors. Lots of junk/etc I think gets into the holes for drainage. Air, maybe draino works, but if sunroof not right
and holes not clear - well rear doors work for rain-guages.

Just my experience with e23.
