Subject: Re: They're bringing back the 8-series? I hadn't heard that.

I meant that back in the 80's, BMW (briefly) experimented with putting the M70 engine in the E24. Instead, they dropped the 6 and made the (much heavier) 8 series. I was wondering if anyone had heard of someone replacing the M30 in a 6 series with the 5 liter M70. Apparently, it will fit (with some serious modifications, I'm sure). Come to think of it, I remember seeing someone selling a homemade 550 on ebay a couple years back. Anyway, if you could squeeze the bigger engine in the 6, and then do some performance upgrades on that engine (twin turbo??) - you would have a car that (performance wise) would be on par with, or better than, the latest 645i - or possibly even the M5.
