The hardest part for the first-timer, though, is locating the darn cable. If you'll imagine a line going vertically down from the right side of the glovebox handle, it will intersect with a corner in the lower part of the glovebox itself. The cable runs parallel to the edge of the glovebox (e.g., front of car to back of car). It's pretty easy to reach your fingers under the edge and grab the cable.

Once the glovebox is open, remove the three screws on cover of the back of the latch. In my case, a small plastic piece was broken and preventing the key from turning. I just popped it out and reassembled everything. The glovebox latch still engages to hold the glovebox closed, but the key lock spins so it won't lock.
