Subject: I drive my '88 750iL on the autobahn about 90% of the time...

If I keep my foot in the gas pedal, I will get 1000 KM's to a 100 ltr tank. Converted that's just over 600 miles from the 25 gallon which gives me a 24 mpg. If I keep my foot out of the pedal, I can get almost 1200 km's which is just over 700 miles and that gives me just over 28 mpg.

It doesn't take much for the M70 to maintain high speeds so I don't use that much petro when driving around 130-160 km/h. If I drive 100 km/h, it seems as if I use more fuel. I'm rather impressed with the fuel usage of my big 12.

I am currently not getting such good gas mileage because I had to remove my thermostat to help offset the lack of help that my viscus fan is providing for the cooling system. I have ordered a new fan clutch and am waiting for its arrival. Not having that thermostat sure does hurt the gas consumption.

So Johan and Shogun, like always, you were right about that. It does help the engine to stay cooler in the absence of a good working viscus fan, but it sure does hurt the gas tank since the water pump is having to pump water continuosly. I now have to drive very conservatively to continue getting at least 1000km's out of each fill up. I drive 200km a day commuting to and from work.
