Subject: you need the UGDO from a 9/99-up (#82 11 1 470 125)

You can find more info about the UGDO w/rolling code (needed for newer garage door openers) in the E38 and E39 archives at Roadfly..just type "UGDO upgrade" into the dialog box after clicking the "search" link.

You can even modify the wiring to have the numbers light up...
click this link to an e39 DIY page....the info for the e39 should apply to the e38

This info is for owners of pre-9/99 (mfg date) e38s that have newer garage door openers with rolling code technology. Upgrading to the newer UGDO will allow you to do away with the clunky OE GDO transmitter. While searching...I ran across prices such as $155-$179 for the new UGDO. You may want to check the usual BMW dealers like Crevier, Pacific, & Circle BMW for pricing along with your local BMW dealer.
