I replaced the foglight bulbs in the '89 735i today. The driver's side bulb was out, but I replaced the pair for good measure (H1 bulbs -- $5 each at AutoZone).

Start by removing the screw holding the brake duct grill in place.

Then pop out the brake duct grill.

Remove the small philips screw that secures the foglight assembly in place.

And swing out the foglight assembly.

Unplug the blue connector.

Twist the plastic end of the connector assembly to separate it from the metal and glass parts.

Press the side of the metal clip that retains the bulb and put it aside.

Unplug the yellow connector from the bulb.

Install the new bulb, taking care to avoid touching the glass part with your fingers (the oil on your skin will shorten the bulb life).
