Good eye, Keith. The correct torque is 81 foot pounds, not 49. It's 49 for the rear calipers. I wrote the wrong figure. It's been corrected.

Ditto on the 5mm hex for the ABS pulse sensor.

I cleaned the ABS pulse sensor, which was very dirty. I also cleaned the hole into which it fits by spraying a lot of brake cleaner into it. It ran out the sides of the hub. I wasn't able to get a brush in there, though.

The symptom I'm having is that the ABS light comes on after about 15 seconds of driving. You can hear what I believe to be the left front brake rapidly engaging and disengaging as if the ABS system were pulsing it, then the ABS light comes on and stays on. I was told by others that this is likely caused by rusted teeth on the inside of the hub. I've been thinking about taking the hub off to examine it or replace it. Is that feasible? A new front ABS hub costs $209 from the dealer, before CCA discount. I'd really like to get the ABS working as we've already had one case of burned rubber during braking.

I don't think I'll paint the rotors or calipers this time, though that's a very good idea. Maybe next time.
