Are you looking for an easy project for this Memorial Day weekend? How about getting rid of those unsightly rust spots on your wheels' lug bolts? Clean them off and give them a fresh coat of flat black paint!


The cleaned, though rusty-looking lug bolts before painting. They're mounted on a piece of carboard to prevent the threads from getting paint on them.


Painting the lug bolts with Rustoleum black satin spray paint. The flash makes it look glossy, but it's not.


The finished results. The Rustoleum needs about 12 hours to dry. If you happen to nick any of the paint off when mounting your wheels, a toothpick dipped in a bit of paint is an easy way to touch-up the bolts.


The bolts on the wheel. This photo was taken at night, but you can get an idea of how the absence of rust on the flat-black bolts makes the wheels look great. It's one more little detail that most people probably won't notice but, like many things, they'd notice the rust.
