I would like to build a sticky or reference ink to e38.org for newbies and others looking to buy Nav computers. Recently a few people have been burned with a MKIII-SZ computer which won't work in the normal SA609 optional navigation configuration. Also I have read of people buying what they were told was a MKIV only to learn they got a NAVI01 (Most bus) type that won't work for iBus based vehicles. Also the monochrmoe Radio Nav version of the MKIII don't appear to be capable of supporting the color screens.

Where i am heading with this is to suggest that we put our heads together to create a definition of the several navigation computer types that are found on eBay and elsewhere too, that can act as a guide for people looking to by them for upgrades and retrofits?

Roy I know you compiled a list of TV modules part numbers, did you do the same for Nav computers? I have several part no's collected and using the ETK supercession feature, I have established which ones replaced which parts up to a point. There are so many part no's used it might be impossible to create a complete listing, but we can try to at least reveal the research we have done ourselves to help these poor souls.

The tricky part comes in when you are moving up a generation because the BMW ETK supercession string or parts use database won't tell you if the new Nav computer fits into any model BMW didn't build it into. That's where our knwoledge and experiences will come in.

You guys want to take this on with me? We can discuss the tasks and who will do which part of the work off-line or here on the forum I don't care either way.

I don't mean to exclude anyone who reads and participates here from this effort, so if I didn't list your name above, it is not to imply only these members are able to participate. Just chime in if you have a better idea, information to add or are willing to do some research.
cheers,

John
