Which products have you seen in the carwash? I'd be VERY careful with wheel cleaners, as some of them use acids in concentrations strong enough to damage the clear coat on the wheels.

I use a gel-type product I got from Griot's Garage, along with hot soapy water (using Zaino Car Wash Conentrate) to clean brake dust. Basketweaves have a lot of small spaces, so I use a good wheel cleaning brush with soft bristles to loosen the dust before another sopa and water wipe with a terrycloth, then a thorough rinse.

To get tar and toher small contamninants, I'd use Tar and Bug Remover after first doing the wash and brush. Wipe it on with the teryycloth, scrub lightly, then repeat the wash and brush.

For those that are wondering, yes, yes, YES! Basketweaves are a PITA to really keep clean.
