A couple of months ago we had a discussion about carrying emergency repair supplies and where to put them. Since the 733 is going to be on the road much of December because my wife and I will have to make several family trips in separate cars due to mixed work schedules, I was going over my supplies and making sure everything was up to snuff. Figured I would snap a few pics to show where I stash things and what I carry, maybe there some ideas in here for you guys.

I like to cover all my bases. Like many of us I put a lot of effort in keeping these machines up and running right, but in a 21 +/- year old car, better safe than sorry.

“The Box”

This contains several items, including a small metric socket set, tire gauge, spare rotor and cap, battery powered drop light, several pair nitrite gloves, EMT scissors, mini hack saw, kit with various small hose clamps and electrical connectors, fuses, various chemicals such a JB Weld Loctite, anti size and tank and radiator repair goop. Also has metal strapping, wire ties, electrical tape, ac charge hose, jumper wires and of course, duct tape.

All this in addition to the full BMW tool set, with spare bulbs.

“The Option Box”

This has a portable compressor, a 12 volt impact wrench (19.99 at Harbor Freight, get one, I have used it on my 10 foot tractor wheels) metric lug sockets, small ac inverter and a few cleaning supplies, such as spray detailer, and a window cloth, with a couple of old towels.

These slide in the back of the trunk with my Mini Mite jump starter/12 volt power supply.

On the driver side of the trunk, behind the side panel I have a spare gallon of antifreeze, a quart of oil, contact cleaner and dielectric grease.

On the spare tire side, I have one of those BMW 9 liter spare gas cans I got on an impulse on eBay. It has proven useful several times when the wife runs out, or my gauge acts up.
Also there is a set of jumper cables I keep in the spare well.

I have found a vast untapped storage area in these cars, and that’s under the rear seat. Here I have a full set of spare cooling and radiator hoses, all drive belts along with a set of plugs, an extra ICV and idle control computer, an ECU, large hose clamps and a set of various relays.

Last but not least, the glove box, which houses my owners manual, Mini Mag light in holster with extra batteries, the original BMW flashlight, a NiteIze head band holder for the mini mag (looks goofy, works great), the BMW lighter adapter that plugs in where the BMW light goes, and of course my 40SW Walther P99 with extra clip. German car, German gun of course. I do travel in some seedy places.

Not pictured is my first aid kit in the armrest in the back, the 10mm nut drive in the seat pocket behind passenger seat for the under seat bolts and my tire gauge in the door pocket. I am sure I missed something.

Hope this at least proves interesting if not helpful.

Just another day in the BMW way.
