I did not measure anything. The length would depend on where you drill the holes in the steel plate.

I just picked a place to drill the two holes, bent short 90 degree "L" bends in one end of two pieces of wire, put the bends in the holes, and marked the wire at the ends of the little plastic arms that used to have the catches on them, also right at the place where they would catch on the rear of the triangular protrusions on the stationary part when the holder is fully open. I then held the wire tightly in pliers and bent the ends up right at the marks. After soldering the two wires to the steel plate, I cut the ends left sticking up so that the ends were about flush with the surface of the trangular catch protrusions when assembled. I did not add, assumed it would be evident, that I Dremeled off the plastic arms to make way for the new wires.

It is easy to remove the front portion of the holder by using a pick to pry out a little on the wires to release them from the catches. Then to put it back you only have to push it back in until the wires are forced back out by the front ramps of the triangles and snap back over and catch, just like the original plastic ones did.

Sorry I did not take more pictures, especially before the repair.
