Wanted to thank you for this writeup, that is also on e38.org. It helped me resolve an SRS issue with the drivers airbag firing circuit (resistance too high). This and a few TIS docs helped me replace the heated steering wheel version of the slip / contact ring on my '96 750iL.

The only hitch encountered was that the part number stamped on my old ring led me to buy the wrong one. The OEM heated steering wheel uses the same slip ring but with copper bands in the grooves (see David's photo where he has pulled out the ribbon cable a little). Regardless of what part number is stamped, if you have a factory installed heated steering wheel... you will need 32 34 1 093 245.

I owe Chris @ Crevier a parts purchase at some point... he called it right, but the local dealer had what I thought was the right part in stock (instant gratification got me on this one).
